Sick leave

Sick leave

What is sick leave?
When an employee needs to take time off of work due to illness or injury, they may have access to paid time off called sick leave. It’s different from PTO (Paid Time Off).

Why do organisations need a sick leave policy?
If organisations don’t set the rules around sick leave, employees will do what works best for them. This can be chaotic for businesses, particularly senior management who are often left to solve the issues. Best practice company policies include specific guidelines around sick leave eligibility, procedures, notice periods, how to make the request, and where to record the information. Without the policy and process, employees can’t be expected to understand the rules. They should be able to find this information in their employee handbook.

How can work management software alleviate the complexities of managing sick leave with remote, hybrid, offshore employees, and independent contractors?
The world is rapidly globalising, and companies are faced with the task of adapting to the ‘new normal’. For many organisations, geographically dispersed employees are a fact of life. Work management software can take the pressure off by providing a robust platform that can be accessed by anyone in your organisation – from anywhere in the world.
