Shift handover

Shift handover

What is a shift handover?
In essence, a shift handover is an exchange of knowledge between two parties. One party is clocking off while the other party is clocking in. By communicating all relevant information such as any issues that have arisen or any tasks that remain outstanding, everyone is on the same page.

Why are shift handovers important?
Shift handovers lay the foundation for good communication. For example, if a key piece of equipment has malfunctioned during the morning shift, without a handover, the afternoon shift employees might spend precious time and resources attempting to fix equipment that someone from the morning shift has already scheduled maintenance to come and fix tomorrow.

By placing an emphasis on communication, resources can be deployed more efficiently and effectively. Ensuring that productivity across all shifts remains high.

Are there ways for businesses to manage shift handovers?
With rostering software shift handovers are made all the more efficient. Rather than having to spend time working out who the next person in charge will be, employees can quickly and easily bring up the roster.

By knowing who is in charge of each shift, employees can plan who they need to communicate with and when. This level of transparency can help to foster better communication. With Roubler’s employee rostering software, these rosters can be deployed and accessed at the touch of a button.
