Employee time theft is one of the most important factors affecting the profitability of your hospitality business. It\u2019s not a new problem, but with already slim profit margins shrinking further thanks to the pressures of Covid-19, it is one that simply can\u2019t be ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time theft happens when staff get paid for time they didn\u2019t work, or get paid when they are at work but are not actually working. This can be the result of human error \u2013 for example, when staff take unscheduled breaks or mistakes are made on hand-written time sheets. A report on time theft released by Software Advice found a staggering 25%<\/a> of employees exaggerate the hours they work, more than 75%<\/a> of the time. This can equate to tens of thousands of dollars a year, which is simply not viable when businesses in the hospitality industry have been hit so hard by recent world events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do away with the paperwork<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Tracking exactly when your employees are working is an essential first step towards preventing time theft, but if you\u2019re still relying on paper time sheets this can be almost impossible to achieve. Issues including unclear handwriting and accidental data entry errors can quickly result in staff being paid for hours they did not work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
